Androctonus mauritanicus is a species of scorpions of the family of buthid . This species can be found in Morocco and Mauritania. It is a large scorpion which measures 8 to 10 centimeters, it is dark in color which can range from dark gray to black. It has long, thin pincers, the end of which is sometimes lighter than the rest of the body. The tail is both long and wide, and the semblon very apparent although relatively thin.

The adult of this species is dark brown to black, with at most the ventral side of the abdomen and the tips of the legs lighter. The adult male is easily distinguished from the female by a large "cut" at the base of the fixed (upper) finger of the pliers. With each clamp, the male has a very visible notch at the root of the fixed finger. In the female, this notch is much less visible, even practically absent. The female has 24 to 30 comb teeth and the male 25 to 30.

The gestation period is 5 to 7 months, the size of a litter varies from 50 to 80 individuals. There are 7 to 8 stages before adulthood.Its life expectancy is 4 to 5 years, including 2 years to reach adulthood.
